The 2016 IS 200t might be the entry-level Lexus sedan, but don’t let that fool you—it’s got all the sleek lines, sharp edges, and aggressive styling you'd expect from a car that’s supposed to intimidate the neighbors, not blend into traffic.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. It churns out a respectable 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and while that might not seem like much, remember: this isn’t a bloated luxury barge, it’s a car that still has some zip to it. It’s no Ferrari, but it’ll get you to the shops in a hurry.
The ride is refined, like you'd expect from a Lexus, but the handling is competent and responsive. Multi-link rear suspension with coil springs soften the drive during the day, and a double wishbone front suspension makes the drive at night fun in the corners.
Inside, the cabin is as plush as you’d expect from a car that costs more than your average hot hatchback, with leather seats, wood accents, and enough technology to make the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon look like a toy. The infotainment system offers basic bluetooth and a back-up camera. You’re buying it because, when you fire it up, the IS 200t makes you feel like you’ve just been handed the keys to something a bit more exciting than a typical four-door sedan.
So, is it fun? Absolutely. This is it a brilliant balance of comfort, style, and a slight hint of aggression. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
